Through My Prison Bars

Through the bars of my prison,
I pushed out the best I could muster.

I know that I did that.
I gave you my best.

And through the bars of their prisons,
I received the best from my parents.

And they, their parents,
And their parents before them.

This is my prayer of forgiveness
To all the long line before me.

I will now accept the very best I was offered.
I will let it predominate in my thought and let it guide my actions.

My struggle to realize my self-worth and to discover my mission
has not only set me free, but all my line both before and after me.
